Mrs. Rina Azlin

Written by: Syazril Izwan bin Ahmad
Sometimes having someone old and wise to teach students is a great and acceptable idea, but sometimes you need someone just a little younger to understand how young students feel and act. Well, I'm going to talk about one of my favorite lecturers in Uniten, Mrs Rina Azlin.

She has taught me and my friends during our Foundation studies, both as a in-class lecturer and lab instructor. At first glance, you might think of her as a run-off-the-mill young lecturer - a bossy know-it-all. But she isn't like that at all. She's sweet, friendly, funny and willing to give students help and advice. But of course this doesn't mean you could simply slack off on your work and expect an A. She expects cooperation from her students and commitment to their work. Only when you truly listen to her teaching then you can have an enjoyable time with her as your lecturer. She manages her class well and gives her students their marks fairly and what they deserve. She indeed (well, to me) is an inspiring lecturer to all those who want to pursue in the field of education.

Small touch big difference

Lecturers are the people who made the students becomes a true successful person after getting their graduation certificates no matter in diploma, bachelor, master or ph.D. Every lecturer have different approach in teaching the students some are strict and some are not. Most lecturers in UNITEN are in between, which sometimes they are so good to the students and sometimes they are strict to students and only for some reasons.

Well, there is a lecturer who really made me wanted to learn while being in the class. The lecturer is Norziana Binti Jamil. Norziana Binti Jamil or I always titled as Puan Ziana, is the one who I really enjoyed learning in her class. With the touch of kindness and soft spoken lecture classes, me myself and I believe most of my friends are captivated by the nature of teaching by her. Work and assignments given to us are well organized and explained.

A small bit of change can really make a big difference. To Puan Ziana, the way she conducted the class is well prepared and managed. These things really gave the students opportunity to have a good time learning in class.

Puan Ziana is also my advisor in UNITEN, once I had a quite bad result and it really made me feel insecure of my studies. So, one day Puan Ziana emailed and sent me a text messages and set a meeting with me. In the meeting, Puan Ziana gave me some advices for my future and upcoming semesters. After a while, I managed to take control of my problems and I really did quite well in future.

Puan Ziana is the type who can kill people with kindness. People who disobey her are still treated equally but will resulted in their marks. In her class, it is very simple where we must concentrate and do things what we supposed to do which is learning. Well, it is proven I did get a good result in her class.

Good things comes to life when people around us are good. Always keep ourself for being good.

MR AZLAN YUSOF

Hello readers ! Have you ever wondered who teaches us in UNITEN ? Well they say lecturers are heart of an University. Same goes to school. Teachers are the one who educate us in many different areas. Such as my mum who teaches mathematics at a school nearby. So this time around, i will talk about someone who i think really good at teaching. His name is Mr Azlan Yusof. He teaches me Web Programming for this semester. Just like my mum, what i like about him is he make sure his students understand with the subject that are being taught. His strategy of giving us exercises to me really helps the students to memorize better and constantly. From the start of the semester, when i was given a choice to choose this subject with different lecturers, i stood by and think whether i want to learn or just have fun. So i've decided to take the class with him because i've heard some good comments about him from another students. I'm not saying fun is bad and other lecturers are bad in teaching the students, but his method is the one i like the most. It suits me and thinking for the future, this subject will help me a lot in achieving my ambition which have something to do with internet. I might venture to websites or most likely to application developer. One tip for me to you readers out there, if you are taking any class which Mr Azlan is teaching. Ask this to yourself, "do i want to succeed?". If the answer is yes, i encourage you to take Mr Azlan's class. Not to forget he is funny too. So its going to be fun as well. Thank you for reading this is Dzahir signing off. =)

An Applause Is Deserved For Educators

We meet again readers :)

I guess everyone has their own favorite teacher/lecturer. Well, I have too. His name is Mr. Alan Cheah Kah Hoe. He is the lecturer of UNITEN.

This great man was my lecturer for the subject Basic Skills for Knowledge Worker (CMPF124) during my foundation year and also for the subject Statistics for Computing (CGNB293) in my last semester.

What I like about him is his teaching style. He's not the type of lecturer that comes into the class and then talk, talk and talk until the class end. He's not the boring type. He usually crack a joke during his lecture time. It is always fun to be in his class.

Even though he is a funny person, he is serious about the studies. It can be seen by the punishment he invented in his class called 'Sin Bin'. Okay, the Sin Bin works like this. He will put a chair in front of the class. Then, if he caught someone talking or playing with their mobile phone, he will call that someone to sit on that chair. Lol! It is always fun to see someone being called to be on that chair, but you can see clearly the objective of the punishment there. He wants his students to focus in his class!

The other thing that I like in his class is the challenge he always give to the students. I still remember the challenge he offered to my class for the subject CMPF124. It was on our midterm exam. He offered us the 'Double Dare' which means each question you got right, 2 marks. If you got it wrong, -2 marks but if you don't answer the question, 0 mark. So, students who are interested can take the challenge. In my opinion, he makes learning much more interesting.

I will never forget about him even when I have graduated from UNITEN. He is going to be a legendary in UNITEN.

New Semester, New Apartment

Hola readers!

This is your author, Amir and I have another interesting story to tell you guys about my life in UNITEN.

Since I was doing my foundation year until I finished it then continue doing my degree I have always stayed in AMANAH apartment. I really like it there but the arrival of the first semester of the year 2012/13 ruined everything.

I applied for an apartment room in AMANAH but I couldn't get one because it is already full. Because of that, I have to apply for an apartment room at CENDIKIAWAN (CENDI for short). Noooo!!! The main reason why I don't want to stay there is because most of my friends got a room at AMANAH. That means, I will be left alone at CENDI. Haih!

Say hello to my new block, C1
Therefore, for this new semester I must stay at CENDI. At first I was like, "This place must be so boring". But then, after a few days staying there, I'm like, "Hmm, this place is not that bad.".

There great thing that I like at CENDI is the grocery store. The store sells a lot of items (especially snacks & drinks) and the most important thing is all the items are sold at a very reasonable price.

Some of the items sold at the grocery store
It is OPEN 24/7! Yeah! Whenever I feel like eating snacks I can just go down there at any time I want and buy it. Even if it is late at night :)

That's me buying a drink late at night
So i guess there's no need to worry much about which apartment you will be staying at UNITEN. For me, both AMANAH and CENDIKIAWAN are a great place to stay.

Great Accommodation, Clean Clothes

Everyone needs a place to stay. It is better if stay inside the college. Well, there are four accommodation offered by UNITEN for the students. For ladies, there is Ilmu, which they share a room for two and Murni which they have their own room. For gentles, there is Amanah, which they share a room for two and Cendikiawan where they have their own room.

For me, I got myself a place in Cendikiawan. Cendikiawan is a very convenient place to stay. There are quite a number of students staying here in Cendikiawan.

Cendikiawan

For the students who stayed in Cendikiawan for a long time, it is undeniably that they have to wash their clothes everyday or every couple of days. Well, Cendikiawan provide laundry, it is a washer machine operated laundry and it needed to be paid before using it. It is convenient, because it is located in the ground floor of Cendikiawan, C1. Students can do their laundry faster with the laundry located inside Cendikiawan.
Time to do laundry!
Just a few steps to the laundry.

Cendikawan Laundry
Cendikiawan laundry cost only RM3.00 for washing and RM2.00/3.00/4.00 for drying the clothes. A very convenient service I can say. Well what are we waiting for? If you have used or dirty clothes, head down to Cendikiawan laundry. Let us have clean and tidy clothing in UNITEN!

For just RM3.00 my clothes are cleaned and ready to go to the dryer.

After RM2.00 and 30minutes my clothes are dried and ready.

Well, that is it from me for Accommodations. Cendikiawan's laundry is a place where you can look good in the next day in clean and tidy clothes. Well, do not forget to bring your own detergent or your dirty clothes will still be dirty clothes.

Staying in Amanah

Written by: Syazril Izwan bin Ahmad

Hey guys! So in this post over here, I'll be talking about the on-campus apartment I'm staying in, Amanah!
Ever since my Foundation in Uniten, I've staying in here in Amanah for a long time. And I should consider my self lucky too, for it is a pretty decent place to live in. There are six blocks in Amanah, each easily recognized and designated by numbers, starting from block A1 to A6. The block I'm staying in is A5, next to A6 which is waaay at the back of Amanah.
In Amanah, each room can house up to 4 students, and is equipped with two bedrooms (2 for each) and of course the usual stuff (bathroom, kitchen, and balcony). Now you'd say that it'll be a boring place if that was all. But it ain't. Amanah has also a few badminton courts around, some of them which, funnily enough, ends up being a makeshift futsal court during the night hours.
We also have a laundry shop for students at A2 to wash up their clothes. These washing machine have a vendor system, thus they must be paid with coins. washing detergents should be self-brought. There's also a surau for Muslims at block A1, complete with a spacious prayer room and of course a place for taking wudhu'.
The accommodation office was unfortunately closed
Last but not by all means least, the accommodation office! If you have a missing water tap or a broken bed-frame and you need to send a complaint, here it is! This where people go for checking-in/checking-out, applying for an apartment vehicle sticker or sending in complaints. The staff here are very helpful and friendly, so don't be shy and ask what ever you need.

This is Syazril, signing off.

A typical student's room. No joke

CENDEKIAWAN ACCOMMODATION OFFICE

:: Behind is where my block is ::
Assalamualaikum this time  is all about cendekiawan's profesional accomodation office.Cendekiawan office are managed by a few staffs that are friendly and caring. They are ready to help students who stay in the CENDEKIAWAN's unit with all sort of problems. For example, if your apartment have something broken, they will assist you instantly. Yes i mean INSTANTLY .. As soon as you fail in the report. They will come to you in the same day to fix it up. That is why i think they are very profesional at this.  And not to forget friendly too.

One of them are Encik Zul(picture on the right). Unfortunately i couldnt get him in the picture because he was busy with maintenance. See? Didnt i tell you they are good? even finding them is hard. But dont worry. I was entertained with another staff which they will take turn to sit in the office. These good quality and being friendly will help students who are (like me) staying in CENDEKIAWAN having a great time staying on campus. Even-though some of the words out there are saying that staying on campus in UNITEN are bad, but i dont necessarily think it that way. Yes we have to buy a top-up for electric even-though this is University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), but the feeling inside campus, atmosphere of surrounded by students is just once in a life time experience. That is all for now. Thank you for reading i'm Dzahir and goodbye.

The Library Is The Heart Of A University

Hello again readers! :)

I think from the title above you guys can predict what's the story of my post. Yes, it is about one of the facilities in UNITEN which is the library!

The view from the outside

This place is my favorite spot in UNITEN to do assignments or study for tests/exams. Why? Let me tell you why.

First of all, it is because the library is fully air-conditioned. That's why I like to chill at the library because sometimes my room is a little bit hot. Hihi.

I need a place with less distraction when I need to focus on my readings. So yeah, library is the perfect place for me as everyone knows, library is very quiet and peaceful.

The chairs provided are all nice and comfy is another thing that I like about the library. The chair is too comfortable sometimes I even fell asleep on it. Lol!

The library is so huge for me. This building has six floors. Each floor has different types/sections of books in it. That is so great because I can search for many information inside the books provided as references for my assignments.

If I can't seem to find the information I need from the books, I can use the computers provided to find the information online. That really helps me a lot! :)

Well, that's the story about a great place called UNITEN library.

No university is complete without computer labs for students interested in the field of IT. Uniten is no exception. In fact, we got two separate places where we have computer labs!

There's one at the College of Engineering (CoE), housed within the building called the Information Technology and Multimedia Services (ITMS). Unfortunately I didn't have the time to head over there to take photos. Anyway, for most engineering students, they'll be taking some basic programming/computing lab subjects and this is where they'll be spending their lessons. But what about the IT and CS(Computer Science) students?

An ordinary day in the computer lab
Well that's easy really, since the other place to have computer labs is of course is in the College of Information Technology(CoIT)! (Where else did you expect?) We have 2 floors housing the computer labs, level 3 and level 4. So it is here that you'll be seeing students everyday having lab sessions for their respective computing subjects, whether it's programming, statistics for computing, or web programming.

Amir and Hisyam
That's not all. This is where the subject registration and add-and-drop sessions for the next semester will be held, thanks to the numerous amount of computers available here (in comparison to ITMS). It's no surprise during the first two weeks of a new semester to see students flocking in and out of the 3rd and 4th floors, frantically going about their business.

I guess I should also mention that the computers we have are (almost) entirely up-to-date, with all the latest tools and software available to keep students updated with the latest tech.

This is Syazril, signing off.

Long time no see!

Hello again readers! I know it's been a long time since our last post so to make it up to you guys, we're gonna be giving out a whole lot of content this week. So for this post, it'll be an overview of the facilities we have in Uniten. Let's kick it of then, shall we?

Uniten's Library
As with any university, Uniten has a load of facilities for students, whether for learning, research or recreation. In the picture on the left here, we have our rather HUMONGOUS library, complete with six floors including an auditorium and an examination hall.

For students staying on campus, we of course have a couple of apartments for them. There are four - Amanah and Cendikiawan for guys, Ilmu and Murni for the girls. I'd tell you more, but ah, that's another story for another time. ;)

Upten
Next up, food outlets! We have several of them littered all around Uniten, but the most prominent one is Upten. This big food court houses 7 shops, each with their own kind and style of foods available and is actually situated outside the university (not too far, we promise), and also next to it we have a row of shops that have some general goods, printing services and even a laundry shop!

Just next to Upten, is our mosque, Masjid Uniten. Besides being a place of worship for our Muslims, it also houses the Center for Islamic Studies and Civilization Uniten(a.k.a CICU). It even has a Zakat unit there, where u can even opt to be a recipient for Zakat if need be. And of course, some classrooms for students studying the Islamic Studies subjects.

Uniten also have some sports facilities, such as a gym, a tennis court, futsal court, a mini stadium, a basketball court, and even a driving range (a golf field, for those of you who don't know). There's a lot more facilities to mention, but I'm afraid I spoke a little too long. Keep up for more updates!
